Mr. Cao serves as VP of the ChangAn Auto Global R&D Center, Director of ChangAn’s Auto Interior & Exterior Committee, and Vehicle Project Director.
He is the exclusive chief editor of the book “Design and Practice of Automotive Interior and Exterior Trim,” published by the China Machinery Publishing House in May 2011,.
Prior to joining ChangAn, Mr. Cao worked as the VP/Chief Engineer /Vehicle Project Director of Chery’s Auto Engineering &Research Institute. He also served as the Director of Chery’s Auto Interior & Exterior Committee. He was in charge of vehicle integration, package, body & trim departments. As the Vehicle Project Director, he led the vehicles development teams to successfully launch the Fluwin2 (sedan) in 2009 and New Tiggo (SUV) in 2010.Same launch vehicles have consistently achieved Chery’s best sales performance in both domestic and oversees markets.
He has a master’s degree in Polymer Engineering from the world’s leading polymer program at the University of Akron, USA. As an industry veteran, Mr. Cao has worked in the U.S. and Canada for over 16 years. He worked as process engineer, tooling engineer, supervisor, Sr. project engineer, Sr. product engineer, and product development manager etc. focusing on auto exterior and interior trim products for the Big Three USA and Japanese OEMs. He was also the tutor training of staff for the design of quality, assembly, and cost improvement techniques.
In the last 5 years as the vehicle project team leader in China, he became an expert for styling feasibility, vehicle integration, package, BIW and trim design etc. Because of these various hand-on experiences, he is good at “one-off design” for a material selection, manufacturing feasibility, assembly, simplification, and quality control.
In 2012 he joined in IALTA as the Executive Chairman, meantime he also became the APIMC vice Chairman.
